January marks the beginning of a new year. And with a new year comes new hopes, new goals, and new intentions. And here I am again, I say. ..January is not just a fresh start, It’s also the time I think about how I can make a difference in my life this year. We’ve all been here, the new year hits, and we dive in with excitement to finally get after that new goal or lifestyle change that we have been thinking about, or to kick the bad habit we know is holding us back (for me…health, wellness, and weight loss). That first week in January, we’re carried through by excitement and adrenaline and that feels great. BUTTTT by week two or three??? Life sets in and the excitement starts to wear off, and our willpower is already slipping. It’s this discouraging cycle that’s given New Year’s resolutions that bad rap we always talk about. AND, it’s why many people give up and don’t even set them anymore. Soooooo, I looked at it a little different this year.
This year I decided that I was going to take some time to recover from the holiday chaos, take a breather before jumping right in. The start of this year was not going to be just another dash towards December while setting all these huge goals. I took time to reflect and catch my breath. I wanted this year to set me up for many years to come, not just to do what everyone else was doing. I chose my word for the year…TRANSFORMATION! I’d like to see transformation in my lifestyle, my business, and my health and wellness! I also decided to look at the year in smaller increments instead of this one big huge resolution or goal. For me, sometimes that’s just a bit overwhelming!
Here are some of the things I came up with:
- Forgive myself and others from mistakes
- Invest my time in bettering myself and my business
- Be patient with my growth
- Say no more often so I’m not running myself crazy
- Have fun!
- Enjoy my TRANSFORMATION
The new year is not just about starting something new, it’s also about putting the past behind you along with all the tears and triumphs and regrets of the resolution that didn’t happen! It’s about clearing up mental space for new adventures and knowledge. So be an empty cup and fill it with gold.
I would love to hear what YOUR WORD for the year is…..Drop me a comment!
